The 16 months between starting as an FY1 in August and applying for Core Surgical Training in FY2 year pass surprisingly quickly.  To be successful in what remains a very competitive process requires you to start developing your CV early.  The aim of the evening is to offer practical advice on how to prepare for the application and interview process. There will also be an opportunity to meet current core surgical trainees at the end of the session to ask any questions and to get advice.

19:00 – 19:45: Getting your CV ready

19:45 – 20:00: Questions and feedback

We are proud to host a unique introduction to Trauma Medicine for undergraduate medical students from all universities.

For the first time, the conference will be split over two full days: Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th Februrary 2012. More details and ticket info at kclsurgicalsoc.com/trauma.

The lectures by renowned experts in the field aim to introduce students to the concepts addressed in the afternoon’s workshops. Talks will include a welcome speech by our patron, Professor Harold Ellis, Emeritus Professor of Surgery and a keynote speech by Professor Keith Willett, Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon.

Small-group interactive sessions, based in clinical skills laboratories, provide delegates with hands-on experience of equipment and techniques.There are a total of six workshop stations that cover various aspects of trauma management. They aim to build on the morning’s talks and give you the opportunity to put your learning in to action.

The conference was started with the aim of educating fellow medical students from across the United Kingdom about the essential aspects in the extremely popular field of trauma medicine and surgery. Without falling short of this, delegates have left each year with a clearer perspective on understanding and delivering clinical excellence to the trauma patient. In our 4th year running, the dedicated members of the KCL Surgical Society have worked extremely hard to put together a two day programme of interactive lectures and workshops. Workshops serve to consolidate delegates’ knowledge from lectures, whilst providing a unique opportunity to strengthen key practical skills.
